Le Gorille a été exposé pour la première fois au Grand Palais en février 2019, lors du salon ArtCapital.
A cette occasion, il fut l’un des coups de coeur du public et se vit décerner une médaille de bronze par le salon des artistes français, fait rarissime pour une première participation à l’événement.
Il s’agit de la première oeuvre réalisée par l’artiste, qui s’y est consacré pendant plus de 6 mois, expérimentant à cette occasion sa technique si particulière d’assemblage de morceaux de cartons.
The Gorilla is the first sculpture made in cardboard by Olivier Bertrand. « Cardboard offers many advantages, it can be easily obtained, it is light and allows to create big subjects. I like the idea of creating from a product of everyday life, to which nobody attaches importance, to give it a second life. By sculpting cardboard animals, I feel I’m in tune with my favorite themes, the environment and nature. » The gorilla is assembled exclusively in cardboard, it was designed to be removable and easily transportable. It is 1m60 high and 1m80 long.
